@karenhanmer Here’s the 9â€x6†landscape sketchbook. I’m using Legion Paper’s Colorplan card stock for the cover, reinforced with a folded layer of Bristol board. I wanted both front and back boards sewn in for this sketchbook.
Karen’s variation of Gary Frost’s sewn boards works great for a single length of Colorplan card stock in my portrait 6â€x9†versions. The floating back cover also allows the cover to adjust to the open book – as well as all of the other paper ephemera that I tucked into that natural folder. It takes two full-length strips to wrap the Bristol 2.25ish times in landscape. I overlapped, trimmed, folded the breakaways, and glued the join. There are, of course, elements to improve in the next iteration.
My previous sketchbook started to worryingly wear at the fore and spine edges from daily use and always being with me. I reinforced both with “highly archival†(cough cough) 3M heavy duty packing tape, which worked well for the remainder of that book’s run, and continues to work. We’ll see how this one wears before I apply more 3M; it has 1/3 fewer pages.
